Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Is this game legal?
A. Yes! Colorado has laws against gambling. Poker League Colorado retained legal council during its inception and carefully structured our game format to be legal. Local authorities have studied and approved our way of gaming and in some venues participated.
Q. How much does it cost to play?
A. Nothing! Just sign up shortly before game start time and play. Although this game is free please support your host location. They are bringing you this event.
Q. Do I really have to be 21 to play?
A. In most cases YES! Check with the host for which venues are “21 and up only”. Some venues do permit players 18 and up to participate but there are some conditions so be sure to check. Also, a player regularly playing an “18+ venue” and qualifying for monthly tournament scheduled at a “21+ only venue” is not permitted to participate in that particular monthly tournament.
Q. We have a dispute on rules?
A. If the table cannot reach a consensus the poker host will make ruling, all poker host decisions are final.
Q. How long will this game take to play?
A. The game is approximately 3-3 ½ hours long from start to finish.
Q. Why do the blinds continue to go up?
A. This game is marketed to the hosting venue to last approximately 3-3 ½ hours. The blind schedule as it exists helps to control the time length of the event.
Q. I am running late to a tournament, can I still play?
A. Any player arriving before first break (approximately 30 minutes after game start time) is announced will be seated; chip count will be docked according to league rules regarding late arrivals. A player can call up to 30 minutes prior to game start to be signed in and have a seat assigned. There is no chip penalty and the player is dealt cards and blinded in until arrival. Players calling in advance have until the end of first break to arrive and take their seats. Once the next blinds are called after break it is too late for players to join. Any chips put in play for these players will be removed from play and deleted from sign in. Players are only awarded points if they actually arrive and participate in the game.
Q. How do I take a break?
A. In a tournament players can fold their hand at any time to leave the table. Play continues even in a player’s absence and dealt hands will be folded/mucked until the player returns. A player may leave the table for a period up to 30 minutes of active play time; breaks not included. Absent players not returning after thirty minutes will have their chips forfeited and only awarded the points offered at the time of the forfeiture (i.e. sign in points, or next position to be awarded at a final table.) Players may surrender chips to the poker host at anytime; chips are never to be given to or split amongst players remaining at the table. Comp tables take breaks at the table’s discretion. Respect will be given to any comp player requesting a break and the break request honored.
Q. Our table is down to 4 players what do we do?
A. Notify your poker host immediately, your table may be “folded” and consolidated into remaining tables. If consolidation is not possible, the host will bring one or more players to the table in order to even out all of the active tables.
Q. Can our table get a new set of cards?
A. Yes! A player can request a deck change at any time, for any reason. Once a new deck has been introduced, the deal must pass around the table one time before a new deck may be requested.
Q. I got to the final table and the extra points, do I also get the sign in points?
A. No! Players who sign up and fail to make the final table will only get sign up points.
Q. The dealer has made an error, what should we do?
A. If the error can be easily corrected then do so. If the cards were misdealt or there were multiple “boxed” (exposed) cards in the deck than the deal can reshuffle all the cards and deal again. There are a few other errors that can occur; refer to league rules on proper procedure or ask a host.
Q. I lost early can I still play?
A. Yes! Complimentary tables (comp tables) are available to players out of tournament play. Any one can play a comp table but only those signed into the nightly tournament are eligible for points. Players may also participate in “Heads Up” games. Guidelines regarding comp table and heads up play are available from the tournament host.
